How Long Does Water Damage Restoration Take?
There are two timelines in a water loss: drying (how long until the structure is safe and stable) and reconstruction (how long until your home looks like it did before). They are completely different.
Day 0: Emergency response and extraction
A 24/7 crew arrives within hours, extracts standing water with truck-mounted units, removes unsalvageable wet materials (carpet pad, soaked drywall), and sets initial drying equipment. Done in 4 to 8 hours on most residential losses.
Days 1 to 5: Structural drying
Air movers and commercial dehumidifiers run continuously. Technicians take daily moisture readings and adjust equipment. Most Class 2 jobs hit dry standard in 3 to 5 days; Class 3 and 4 (hardwoods, plaster, concrete) can take 5 to 10.
Week 1 to 2: Scope, estimate, insurance approval
Once dry, we write an Xactimate scope for repairs and submit to your insurer. Adjusters in KY typically approve within 5 to 10 business days.
Weeks 2 to 8: Reconstruction
Drywall, paint, flooring, cabinetry, trim. A single-room loss can finish in 2 to 3 weeks. Whole-floor or multi-room losses run 6 to 10 weeks. Cabinets and specialty flooring (custom hardwood) are usually the long-lead items.
